The Motherland

A carousel. In the middle of town. Just because

Lyon: maybe my favorite city in the world. I went over this weekend for a family ceremony and realized I've never shown my hometown to all you bloggers! {Cue tour guide voice}.

Second-largest city in France after Paris (although it's pretty much neck and neck with Marseille and there's this rivalry between the two to be second-largest.) It's a huge metropolitan area with gorgeous pedestrian boulevards and parks ...

... but nestled just outside the tourist center is an area I had never discovered before, Les Traboules de la Croix-Rousse. These are traditional little passageways that wind between houses and they're so atmospheric. You could get lost, metaphorically and quite literally.

One secluded street in the Traboules was called "Soul Passage" and was full of independent design shops; a little bit bohemian, a little bit hippie, a little bit chic... just the way I like 'em!

And now. What trip to France is complete without a visit to La Droguerie, a fabulous bead and notions shop? When I blogged about Strasbourg I showed you the beady paradise but this time I was particularly fixated on the ribbon wall(s). This picture shows one of three

I've come to realize that I love this store more than life itself.

So, in conclusion: GO GO GO. I would love to hear your impressions of it!

Oh, i wish my home town was like that. My home town is full of grass and barns, which is pretty, but the closest ribbon we have is 30 minutes away at walmart..... That's why you have to love europe!
